Snapchat’s newest feature is also its biggest privacy threat

Recently Snapchat introduced Snap Map, an opt-in function that allows you to share your location with your friends on a map. But what Snapchat doesn’t tell you, is that if you aren’t careful, Snap Map will broadcast your exact location to anyone on your friends list every time you open the app.

Hogan Lovells Launches GDPRnow App

Exactly one year before the EU General Data Protection Regulation becomes applicable, global law firm Hogan Lovells has launched GDPRnow, a mobile application that provides companies with assistance to identify practical steps to comply with the new framework. Conceived entirely in-house by the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity team, GDPRnow is the first app ever aimed at generating a GDPR compliance action plan specific to an individual business’s activities.

Fieldfisher Publishes its GDPR App

On June 06, 2017, European law firm Fieldfisher launched mobile app: “A Complete Guide to the GDPR”. The app provides complete guide to Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Unfortunatelly, at the moment app is available only for iOS.

Study: Most dementia apps lack a privacy policy

Mobile health apps targeting dementia patients lack appropriate privacy policies, according to researchers, raising concerns about the possibility of privacy breaches within a particularly vulnerable population. Researchers found less than half of dementia apps had a privacy policy and most lacked necessary details.

The Google Play apps that say they don’t collect your data – and then do

Adware is typically viewed as a nuisance that does no real harm. But in recent research, SophosLabs has seen adware in Google Play that does more than just deliver ads. This strain can collect the user’s personal information, including email address, and send them to a remote server.

Telefonica Gives Consumers Control Over Some Data

Telefónica in Germany has announced a partnership with U.K. firm People.io to power an app in which the telco giant’s customers can control some of their data.

The app for customers to manage data, branded as O2 Get, is now part of Telefónica’s O2Germany app portfolio for Apple and Android devices. It will be promoted to Telefónica’s 44 million customers in the country, where data protection laws already reflect GDPR.
