EU Council Publishes Proposed Amendments on Draft ePrivacy Regulation

On September 8, 2017, the Council of the European Union published its proposed revisions to the draft ePrivacy Regulation, which was first published by the European Commission in January 2016. The revisions have been made based on written comments and discussions involving the Working Party for Telecommunications and Information Society and serve as a discussion for further meetings of the group in late September 2017.

APEC data privacy group and European Commission meet to discuss global data flows

On August 22, 2017, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the APEC Electronic-Commerce Steering Group’s Data Privacy Subgroup (DPS) held its meeting with the European Commission (the Commission) to discuss issues related to personal data protection regimes and the facilitation of global data flows.

May 2018 deadline for EU ePrivacy Regulation may be unrealistic

Member States are still preparing their national positions on EU Commission’s proposal for an ePrivacy Regulation. However, the EU Council’s Maltese Presidency’s progress report reveals that some Member States think that ePrivacy Regulation may be too difficult to achieve by May 25, 2018 to come into force at the same time as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

European Commission callsg for GDPR expert group applications

European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers has set up a multistakeholder expert group to support the application of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The group’s tasks shall be to provide and share experience from a stakeholder point of view on the application of GDPR and where necessary and appropriate, support the early preparation of possible implementing and/or delegated acts.

To form the group, Commission is calling for applications for participation from academics, legal practitioners and organisations. Applications must be sent by 2 June 2017.
