Social media terms ‘jargon-busted’ for teens

Children’s Commissioner Anne Longfield simplified the Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and YouTube websites’ terms and conditions with privacy law firm Schillings. But Instagram said the simplified version of its terms contained “a number of inaccuracies”.

How the GDPR will disrupt Google and Facebook

Google and Facebook will be unable to use the personal data they hold for advertising purposes without user permission. This is an acute challenge because, contrary to what some commentators have assumed, they cannot use a “service-wide” opt-in for everything. Nor can they deny access to their services to users who refuse to opt-in to tracking. Some parts of their businesses are likely to be disrupted more than others.

Spanish DPA’s decision fining Facebook “first to go into detail of massive scale processing”

14 September 2017 The Spanish data protection authority (‘AEPD’) announced, on 11 September 2017, that it had issued a decision in which it fined Facebook, Inc. €1.2 million for serious violations of the Organic Law 15/1999 of 13 December on the Protection of Personal Data (‘the Law’) (‘the Decision’).
