UK ICO Revises Subject Access Guidance Following Court Rulings

On June 20, 2017, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) published an updated version of its Code of Practice on Subject Access Requests. The updates are primarily in response to three Court of Appeal decisions from earlier this year regarding data controllers’ obligations to respond to subject access requests.

UK’s ICO to investigate use of data analytics for political purposes

Elizabeth Denham, UK Information Commissioner, has announced today that she has launched a formal investigation into the use of data analytics for political purposes.  In response to a question from PL&B, she confirmed in open session at the ICO Conference in March, that the ICO was assessing the use of micro-targeting by the Leave Campaign in the EU referendum. Now the initial look at the role of Cambridge Analytica (CA) and partner companies abroad has broadened into this formal investigation into micro-targeting services.

Watchdog queries scope of rules on ‘profiling’ under the GDPR

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has identified an anomaly between the definition of profiling in the GDPR and how profiling is described in other parts of the Regulation. The ICO has published its findings in a new discussion paper (28-page / 390KB PDF).
