Google, Mozilla may let web apps edit files despite security warnings

The firms, known for their Chrome and Firefox web browsers, are heading a group that is devising a way for users to save changes they make using web apps.

The idea is to allow users to save changes they’ve made using web apps, without the hassle of having to download new files after each edit, as is necessary today. However, the biggest challenge will be guarding against malicious sites seeking to abuse persistent access to files on a user’s system.

Browsers aim to thwart tracking

New protections in Apple’s Safari and Mozilla’s Firefox browsers aim to prevent companies from turning “cookie” data files used to store sign-in details and preferences into broader trackers that take note of what you read, watch and research on other sites.

Firefox’s New Browser Will Keep Brands From Stalking You

Future versions of Firefox will block third-party tracking codes, and trackers that take too long to load, by default. Users won’t need to take any action. Solution will not block ads (though it may prevent some from being displayed). Feature is already tested and will be released later this year.

Mozilla Presses Pause on Facebook Advertising

Mozilla is pressing pause on our Facebook advertising. Facebook knows a great deal about their two billion users — perhaps more intimate information than any other company does.

They know everything we click and like on their site, and know who our closest friends and relationships are. Because of its scale, Facebook has become one of the most convenient platforms to reach an audience for all companies and developers, whether a multibillion corporation or a not-for-profit.
