50% Would Share Smart Device Data For Discounts

When it comes to sharing data from smart devices, many consumers will give it up, for a price. That price can involve simple discounts on utilities or product improvements. Roughly 50% of U.S.broadband households are willing to share data from their smart devices for discounts on electricity, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Can gender balance impact organizational security?

According to new research, age, experience, gender, and attitudes influence risky behaviors and security culture.

CLTRe, a Norwegian security culture research company, today released its Security Culture Report 2017, which studied more than 10,000 employees across five verticals in two countries within the Nordics to determine how risk and security is understood and actioned.

The state of privacy 2017: EDPS provides mid-mandate report

On May 4 European Data Protection Supervisor, Giovanni Buttarelli, published his mid-mandate report “The state of privacy 2017: EDPS provides mid-mandate report”. Buttarelli indicated that EDPS will continue to work on aims outlined in EDPS Strategy 2015-2019. He also pointed out that EU data protection framework consists of much more than just the GDPR.

Facebook transparency report signals need for privacy guidelines

Facebook released its latest Global Government Requests Report covering the second half of 2016. The report shows that over first half 2016 requests for account data increased by nine percent. Half of the data requests are from law enforcement in the U.S. containing a non-disclosure order that prohibited Facebook from notifying the user on request.

1.1 billion identities exposed in data breaches in 2016, says Symantec report

On April 26 Symantec released its Internet Security Threat Report. It states that in the last eight years, more than 7.1 billion identities have been exposed in data breaches globally, which is almost the equivalent of one for every person on the planet.

According to the report US had 1,023 breaches in 2016, topping the list of breaches by country. India, at the same time, had only eight breaches.

Report also reveals that the number of data breaches actually dropped in 2016 to 1,209, compared with 1,211 breaches in 2015.
