The US wants to copy Europe’s strict data privacy law – but only some of it

Lawmakers, lobbyists and CEOs in the U.S. are looking to trying to pick out the best parts of the EU’s privacy law called GDPR – and ditch what they see as the worst.

Companies back many of the individual rights under GDPR such as transparency, correction, deletion and access to data. There is broad support for a common framework like GDPR that “harmonizes” privacy rules across different regions.
