New EU ePrivacy Regulation: European Parliament Committee Publishes Draft Report

The EU Parliament Committee in charge of reviewing the EU Commission’s Proposal for an e-Privacy Regulation (Proposal) recently released a Draft Report proposing amendments to the regulation. The e-Privacy Regulation will regulate new electronic communication services such as instant messaging, VOIP services, web-based email, and IoT devices, and will impose significant additional obligations on Internet services and related technologies, including cookies and similar technologies.

WP29 on financial data transfers, guidance schedule

The Article 29 Working Party, the collected data protection authorities in the EU, released more information today regarding work completed in its recent June plenary session. It includes extensive new information on records transferred to non-adequate third countries’ financial authorities and details on when to expect further guidance on GDPR implementation.

Under the GDPR, subject-access requests will change for controllers

Under the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation, data subjects have a right to access their personal data held by a controller. Controllers under the GDPR will need to respond to data subjects who make a subject-access request.

The Italian Data Protection Authority restricts the monitoring of employees’ internet and email use

The Italian Data Protection Authority (“IDPA”) issued its first decision interpreting the amended Section 4 of the “Workers’ Bill of Rights,” concerning the monitoring of employees’ internet access and e-mail use.
