Nevada Enacts Website Privacy Notice Law

Recently, Nevada enacted an online privacy policy law which will require operators of websites and online services to post a notice on their website regarding their privacy practices. The Nevada law contains content requirements for online privacy notices, specifying that the notice must (1) identify the categories of personally identifiable information (“PII”) collected through the website and the categories of third parties with whom PII may be shared; (2) provide information about users’ ability to review and request changes to PII collected through the website; (3) disclose whether third parties may collect information about users’ online activities from the website; and (4) provide an effective date of the notice.

Legal boffins poke holes in EU lawmaker’s ePrivacy proposals

The report (PDF), written by five experts from the Institute for Information Law at the University of Amsterdam, says that in some cases draft ePrivacy regulation, proposed by European Commission, would reduce the protection offered by the incoming General Data Protection Regulation, which the ePrivacy regulation is meant to complement.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a welcome first step in creating an environment fit for the digital age. Due to come into force in just under a year’s time, this regulation will give consumers the ability to manage who has their data and what they do with it. As individuals, we should be delighted by this.

Privacy Shield: “Deficiencies still remain and must be resolved”

Civil Liberties Committee Chair Claude Moraes during visit in US stressed that “Deficiencies still remain which need to be urgently resolved to ensure that the Privacy Shield doesn’t suffer from critical weaknesses”.

Spain creates DPO certification scheme

20 July 2017 The Spanish data protection authority announced, on 13 July 2017, that it had instituted a data protection officer certification scheme (‘the Scheme’) in collaboration with the National Accreditation Entity in light of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
